Konica Layak was a famous national-level rifle shooter. She won the state championship (Jharkhand) in 10m Air Rifle Shooting. Konica committed suicide on 15 December 2021 in her hostel room in Kolkata.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
Konica was born in 1994 in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Her father’s and mother’s names are Prateem Layak and Beena Layak respectively. She had one younger sister and two elder sisters. Her father works in a private company and her mother is an Anganwadi worker.
EDUCATION
Konica did her schooling at Shree Shree Lakshmi Narayan Trust Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Dhanbad. She holds the degree of Master of Commerce from Raja Shiv Prasad College, Dhanbad. In her college days, she developed an interest in rifle shooting.
CAREER
Konica Layak began her career as s shooter while she was in college. Then she started taking participating in various District level shooting championships. Layak won so many shooting championships in 2015, 2016, and 2017. She was qualified for the national level shooting championship in 2016 in Pune and in 2017 in Kerala. But she could not win the championships.
Konica began her training in shooting at Jaideep Karmakar Shooting Academy in Kolkata in 2021.
Layak lost the competition in 2016 and 2017. She did not have the upgraded rifles so she requested the sports authority and NGOs to help her. In her tweets, she requested Indian actor Sonu Sood to help her from Sonu Sood Foundation. The actor gifted her a German rifle which cost 2.5 lakhs.
DEATH
Konica Layak committed suicide in her hostel room in Howrah, West Bengal. She hung herself to the ceiling fan with a dupatta tied around her neck. She left a suicide note in which she wrote that she was not able to fulfill the dreams of her parents and she was a failure.
According to the reports, She was qualified for the national championship at the GV mavalankar pre-National event. And see is the 4th Indian suiter who did suicide.
