Senior bureaucrat J B Mohapatra has been appointed the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). His appointment was approved today by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
He has already served as the acting chairman of the CBDT. A 1985-batch IRS officer, Mohapatra was given the additional charge as CBDT chairman after the tenure of incumbent PC Mody ended this year in May.
Mohapatra, a 1985-batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officer, is currently a member of the board that frames the policy for the Income Tax department.
Earlier, Mohapatra had served as the principal chief commissioner of Income Tax for the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of J B Mohapatra, as chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes, the order said.
He has been holding the additional charge of CBDT chairman since May 31, after the extended tenure of incumbent P C Mody had ended.
