Sepoy Aman Kumar

Sepoy Aman Kumar hailed from the village of Sultanpur Mohiuddin Nagar Tehsil in Samastipur district in Bihar.
His father’s name is Shri Sudhir Kumar Singh and his mother’s name is Smt Renu Devi. He has two brothers and a sister. he got married to Ms. Minu Devi in Feb 2019.

Career

Until 2020, Sep Aman Kumar was in operation for about 5 years and served in several available areas. He was a strong soldier and always encouraged others in his village to join the army.

In June 2020, Sep Aman Kumar was deployed in East Ladakh on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) as part of Operation Snow Leopard. Since the beginning of June, tensions in the LAC have escalated due to construction work in the Galwan Valley near Leh Road to Daulat Beg Oldie. The Chinese seriously opposed the construction of a bridge over the Galwan River into the Aksai Chin area.. The area is of strategic importance to both India and China, as it dominates the road from Leh to Daulat Beg Oldie, a runway of great military importance to India. Several rounds of dialogue took place between senior military officers on both sides in order to defuse tensions. On the evening of June 15, 2020, Chinese activities were recorded across the Galwan Valley Bridge, and the Indian military decided to confront them with Chinese troops to ask they will respect the LAC and follow the position as previously agreed during the talks.

 

Due to the seriousness of the situation, Colonel Santosh Babu, commander of the 16th Bihar Battalion in the area, decided to hold the meeting. However, the quarrel in the discussion provoked to anger, which led to the skirmish. The fighting soon turned into a brutal battle, with Chinese troops attacking Colonel Santos Babu and his men with clubs and sticks. There were very many Indian troops and Chinese troops seemed ready to attack. As the clash escalated, Sep Aman Kumar and other battalion soldiers joined the defeated Indian troops in the fight against Chinese troops. The clashes went on for many hours during which several Indian soldiers were severely wounded, including Sep Aman Kumar.

Award

Sep Aman Kumar was a brave and devoted soldier who laid down his life at the age of 25 in the performance of his duties. Sep Aman Kumar was awarded the “Medal of Hay” on January 26, 2021, for his extraordinary courage, devotion to duty, and supreme sacrifice.
