PULWAMA OPERATION : 01st July 2021

During July 2021, Hav Kashiray Bammanalli’s unit 44 RR was stationed in the J&K district of Pulwama and was often involved in operations against terrorists. On 30 June 2021, the unit got intelligence regarding terrorists in Hanjan village, Pulwama district, which falls within its AOR (Area of Responsibility). It was decided to conduct an operation as soon as possible to apprehend or exterminate the terrorists. Hav Kashiray was assigned to the squad in charge of carrying out this operation. Hav Kashiray and his companions arrived in the suspected area as scheduled and began the search and cordon operation on the night of June 30, 2021.
Hav Kashiray was the Combat Action Team leader, and he and the troops cordoned off the likely escape path. The terrorists attempted to depart around 2315 hours by throwing explosives and shooting indiscriminately in the direction of Hav Kashiray. He returned fire with precision and drove the attackers back into the home. At 2350 hours, the terrorists tossed grenades and opened fire on Hav Kashiray in yet another desperate effort to breach the barrier. Despite suffering a severe damage to his chest, he delivered accurate fire and destroyed a terrorist. Despite seriously wounded, he moved forward to a vantage point, sensing great threat to his flank. He then attacked three other attackers from close range, saving the lives of his Combat Action Team teammates. Terrorists were eventually eliminated.
However, Hav Kashiray was critically injured while doing so and was airlifted to Srinagar’s 92 Base Hospital for treatment. However, Hav Kashiray died as a result of his injuries and was martyred. Hav Kashiray was a brave and loyal soldier who gave his life in the service of his country. On 26 January 2022, Hav Kashiray was posthumously awarded the nation’s third-highest gallantry medal, the “Shaurya Chakra,” for his exceptional valour, loyalty to duty, camaraderie, and heroic sacrifice.
