Alok Kumar Chaudhary, a resident of Samastipur district, has taken charge as the new Managing Director (MD) of State Bank of India. His appointment comes in view of Ashwini Bhatia retiring as Managing Director on May 31, 2022. Choudhary was earlier Deputy Managing Director (Finance) in the bank. On Tuesday, he took over as the Managing Director of Retail Business and Operations of the State Bank of India (SBI).
PERSONAL INFORMATION
Alok is the teacher son of Neema Chakhaidar village under the Chakmehsi police station area of Samastipur district. His father Late Kedar Narayan Choudhary had retired from the post of headmaster from High School Arunachal Pradesh. Alok Kumar Choudhary is the middle of three brothers. Elder brother Ashok Choudhary is retired from Arunachal Pradesh as a teacher. Younger brother Navesh Chaudhary runs a private school in Muzaffarpur.
EDUCATION
Alok Chaudhary did his early education at Shri Kamta Prasad High School, Barheta. After passing the Bihar Board examination with good marks, he studied at Langat Singh College, Muzaffarpur. After completing his graduation, he first became an officer in PNB. After assuming the post of PO of State Bank of India from 1987, he reached the post of Managing Director of State Bank of India. A total of 21 candidates were interviewed for this post in March. In these, they were selected. There is a wave of happiness in the village after becoming the MD of SBI.
CAREER
Alok has also been the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) Human Resources and Corporate Development Officer in the bank. Chowdhary was also the Chief General Manager of the Bank’s Delhi Circle for three years. Besides Chowdhary, three other managing directors in the bank are CS Shetty, Swaminathan J, and Ashwini Kumar Tiwari. Here CS Setty has the responsibility of Retail Banking. While Swaminathan is responsible for stressed assets and Ashwini Tiwari is in charge of International Banking.
