Abhay Sharma

Abhay Sharma is a well-known visually impaired Indian stand-up comedian, YouTuber, politician, and lyricist. He rose to prominence after appearing as a contestant on the popular reality TV shows The Great Indian Laughter Challenge (2017) and The Indian Laughter Champion  (2022).

PERSONAL

Abhay Kumar Sharma was born on Saturday, 5 July 1997 in Village Gordiha, Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, India and belongs to a Hindu family. Cancer is his zodiac sign.

EDUCATION

In 2013, he did his schooling at Sri Hanuman Prasad Poddar Andh Vidyalaya, Varanasi. In 2016, he did Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

 

CAREER

Abhay Sharma worked as an under-training RJ at Radio 90.8 FM – Aap Ki Aawaz after completing his formal education in 2016. After completing his internship with the radio station in 2017, Abhay Sharma joined the Utsav Trust Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). Abhay Sharma received an invitation to take part in the live stand-up comedy show Divyango Ki Shyam, Swachchta Ke Nam in 2017. The Madhya Pradesh government in Jabalpur organised the event.
Abhay Sharma received his first major break in 2017 when he was chosen to compete in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, a reality comedy TV show that aired on Star Plus. Abhay was one of seven contestants who advanced to the show’s grand finale.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Abhay Sharma in 2019 after being impressed by his mimicry skills. PM Modi praised Abhay’s performance in his Mann Ki Bat comedy skit, which was based on the Prime Minister’s Mann Ki Bat radio programme.
Abhay Sharma was chosen by the Election Commission of India to represent the organisation as the brand ambassador for raising voter awareness in Sonbhadra district during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the same year.
Abhay Sharma joined the NGO Utsav Trust in 2017, and in 2021 he was chosen to serve as its president. The Banaras Film Festival invited Abhay Sharma to give the opening address in 2021..
Abhay Sharma and his supporters went on an indefinite hunger strike in 2021 to protest the local administration of Varanasi’s decision to refuse the visually impaired children’s admissions to classes 9 through 12 at Sri Hanuman Prasad Poddar Andh Vidyalaya.

Abhay Sharma is a YouTuber as well. He has around 32.3k subscribers on his YouTube account as of June 2022. Abhay Sharma uploaded a comedic clip called Janta Ka Vaccine Tender to his YouTube account in 2021. The video quickly became one of his most popular and viewed YouTube skits.
Abhay Sharma frequently collaborates with another well-known stand-up comedian, Shyam Rangeela. Abhay and Shyam released a comedy skit named UP Ka Vikas Dekha? on January 22, 2022. They released another comedic video, Jab Mile Yogi, Modi Aur Akhilesh, on their YouTube channel in 2022.
Abhay Sharma released another satirical comedy video titled IPL Aur Corona-Logy the same year. The video was inspired by the Corona Virus and IPL.
Abhay Sharma is a well-known lyricist who writes songs about the current socio-political situation in Indian society. On February 18, 2022, he wrote a song called Jayegi Jumlebaz Sarkar. Abhay Sharma received his second huge break in 2022 when he was chosen to compete in India’s Laughter Champion, a reality comic TV competition. Sony TV broadcasted the show. When asked about his second involvement on a comedy reality TV show, Abhay stated, “I think making people laugh is the best gift someone can have, and I am just glad that God blessed me with this skill.” I’d like to thank Sony TV and India’s Laughter Champion for this fantastic chance. The competition is fierce; there are many talented comedians in the running, but I will do everything in my power to be the best among them.”
